SmartSurvey™ news
March 2025
SmartSurvey™ is a small technological revolution that converts a simple video taken on a mobile phone into a complex 3D point cloud. Stay updated with the latest SmartSurvey™ news.

New design enhances user-friendliness
Both PointView® and SmartSurvey™ have undergone a complete transformation. The SmartSurvey™ app is being replaced by a new, more user-friendly version, while the PointView® platform has received a significant visual and functional upgrade.
Enhancing security and strengthening the platform’s robustness has been a key priority. At the same time, we have long aimed to bring PointView® closer to our other services. Therefore, the user interface and map functionality have been updated to make the platform more intuitive and modern.
We expect a release of PointView® in early April 2025.

A new look with a focus on usability
The new update of SmartSurvey™ and PointView® offers increased usability, enhanced security and a more contemporary interface.

Display of Orthomosaics
To create a seamless user experience with a complete overview of the utility database, we have long offered direct integration with our customers’ GIS platform for displaying data collected with SmartSurvey™.
We have now expanded our service to include the orthomosaics generated as part of the point cloud production, making it easier to manage and compare your data.
By displaying orthomosaics, you can view open trenches alongside your utility database. This enhances clarity, allowing you to quickly gain an overview of excavation sites and other areas of interest—directly within your map view.
Digital Overview
Through photogrammetry, orthomosaics provide a detailed top-down view of the excavation site.

Copenhagen: HOFOR Chooses SmartSurvey™
HOFOR, Denmark’s largest local utility provider has chosen to document their excavation sites using SmartSurvey™.
To achieve this, HOFOR will combine our innovative SmartSurvey™ technology with TruePoint™ to ensure the necessary precision both in the field and at the office. The collaboration started in February, when we began training a number of key employees in collecting 3D documentation, enabling the solution to be fully implemented in production.
We are pleased to support HOFOR with precise documentation, ensuring they continue to provide high supply security and quality to more than 1 million people in the metropolitan area.
Zurich: Documentation with PointView®
As part of the district heating rollout in the Swiss metropolis of Zurich, we have initiated a collaboration with the established energy company Energie 360° AG, which specializes in sustainable energy solutions.
Due to the architectural and terrain-related challenges of the surroundings, Energie 360° AG has chosen to document the district heating rollout with drone images, which are subsequently displayed in PointView®. This allows an easy and fast way to gain a complete overview, making planning and execution more manageable.
By integrating their drone data into PointView®, Energie 360° AG gains the necessary digital overview of the construction site, ensuring seamless project execution while securing documentation and map updates for future use.
Tokyo: Collaboration on 3D Documentation
How do you carry out a 3D revolution when responsible for surveying and servicing 60,000 km of gas pipelines in Tokyo? Kyoshin Giken traveled to Denmark to learn how SmartSurvey™ and PointView® can do just that—revolutionize surveying by creating a complete 3D model of underground utility infrastructure.
Kyoshin Giken specializes in surveying for utility companies and provides services to Tokyo Gas, which operates an impressive network of 60,000 km of gas pipelines—the equivalent of the total length of sewer pipes in all of Denmark.
During their visit, we introduced them to one of our existing Danish customers, who shared their experiences with SmartSurvey™ and explained why they chose to implement the solution. The company returned to Japan with extensive knowledge of SmartSurvey™ and an agreement to begin 3D documentation of underground pipelines, allowing them to experience the significant benefits of the technology firsthand.

Course: How to Work with LER Data
As a new initiative, we have started offering courses led by some of the country’s top specialists.
This course aims to provide an understanding of handling data from LER 2.0. Participants will learn how to effectively utilize data from the system to ensure optimal management of the utility package generated by LER, minimizing the risk of excavation damages. During the course, you will gain the following insights:
• Practical tools to understand different approaches to handling data from LER 2.0
• Specific GIS knowledge that you can apply in your own organization
• Insights into simplifying excavation request management within your organization
• A review of various use cases and concrete tools for each scenario
